Tom de Sutter scored twice as Anderlecht destroyed Gent 5-0 in the Belgian First Division to move clear at the top of the standings.

Anderlecht entered Tuesday’s game equal on 22 points at the top of the table with Zulte-Waregem, Club Brugge and Genk.

But two goals to De Sutter, as well as strikes from Dennis Praet, Massimo Bruno and Alexander Yakovenko completed a huge win for Anderlecht that gives them breathing space at the top, albeit with an extra game played.

The rout started in the 19th minute when De Sutter struck and just four minutes later Praet hit the back of the net.

De Sutter made it 3-0 in the 68th minute before Bruno and Yakovenko scored in the closing stages to complete the rout.

Gent remain seventh on 19 points.
