The father of Benfica’s Rodrigo Moreno says the striker is interested in signing a contract extension with the Portuguese club.
The Spain under-21 international has established himself as an important player in Jorge Jesus’ squad, netting 10 goals in 21 competitive appearances since the start of the season.
His performances have reportedly caught the eye of Real Madrid, who are believed to be interested in re-signing the striker after selling him in 2010.
Reports in the Portuguese press on Friday claimed Benfica wanted to tie Rodrigo down to a new contract, and the striker’s father has said his son will consider an extension at the end of the campaign.
“Rodrigo still has three-and-a-half years on his contract. Our plan is to talk about his situation at the end of this season so that this matter does not influence his performance,” Adalberto Machado told Radio Renascenca.
“Talking about money would be discussing matters which, right now, are not his main focus.”
“He wants to end the season well and (hopes) that Benfica reach their goals. If at the end of the season Benfica feel it is a good time to talk about a new contract, we will be available to talk.”
