Betting Prediction: Reading vs Birmingham – 07/04/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Birmingham double chance

Odds: 1/2 @ 888sport

Looking to make it three Championship victories on the bounce this weekend, Birmingham will make the trip to Reading on Friday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Reading might have been last seen snatching a 1-1 draw away at Bristol City on their return from the international break, the Royals are enduring an extended rut. With some in their camp still firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, Paul Ince’s side have now failed to win any of their last six straight meetings against Championship opposition. With that run stemming all the way back to February 25th, the one-time Wolves boss finds growing pressure on his shoulders. With their nightmare rut highlighted by a woeful 5-0 drumming at the hands of Middlesbrough last month, Reading have also shown some worrying issues on home soil. It should be noted, the Royals have picked up just a single point from their last three Championship appearances in Berkshire. With just a pair of wins to their name since the start of January, Ince’s downbeat squad should be bracing themselves for another stern test here.

As for the visitors, marking their return from the international break with a 1-0 victory at home against play-off contenders Blackburn, Birmingham are riding what has been a recent wave of momentum. Skyrocketing away from a looming relegation scrap, John Eustace’s men should find the mood in their camp a real high. Heading into the fortnight interval with another 1-0 win away at QPR, the Blues should be confident of making another Championship statement on Friday afternoon. Suffering just a single defeat from any of their last five meetings against second-tier opposition, Eustace’s side should also be excited by their most recent meeting against Reading. Claiming an action-packed 3-2 victory when they welcomed the Royals to St. Andrew’s for their reverse meeting on December 16th, Birmingham will be desperate to produce a repeat display this weekend. Given the recent gulf in class between Friday’s opponents, we are backing an away double chance in Berkshire.

Bet: Birmingham double chance against Reading 1/2 for Friday’s Championship battle @ 888sport
