Competition: League One

Market: Cambridge United win

Odds: 5/4 @ BetUS

Hoping to extend on their recent League One flurry, Cambridge will welcome Exeter to Abbey Stadium on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Cambridge might have signed off November in the midst of a struggle, Neil Harris’ side have come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Last seen mounting a stellar comeback as they secured a 2-1 victory at home against Blackpool, the former Millwall boss will be calling on his squad to make another statement here. Unbeaten in all of their previous three appearances across all competitions, the U’s should also be excited by their continued success on home soil. Extending on their FA Cup adventure earlier in the month as they stormed their way to a 4-0 romp against Fleetwood, Harris’ men have now won five of their last six showdowns in front of their own supporters. With that purple patch at the Abbey Stadium stemming all the way back to a 0-0 stalemate against leading promotion contenders Portsmouth on October 24th, Cambridge should be smelling a potential opportunity to make another statement on Friday night.

As for the visitors, while some in Exeter’s camp might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign with their sights set on mounting a genuine play-off charge, Gary Caldwell’s side are at the heart of a major struggle. Battling it out at the foot of the League One table and holding just a three-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone, the Grecians have come under a huge amount of scrutiny. Along with signing off November with a woeful 7-0 drumming at the hands of Bolton, the Devon-based outfit have recorded just a single win from any of their previous 15 straight outings. With that nightmare blip stemming all the way back to September 26th, Exeter have also shown some glaring issues in the final third. Bagging just one goal in their last four outings, Caldwell’s downbeat squad should be bracing themselves for a stern challenge here. Hit with a 2-1 loss when they last travelled to the Abbey Stadium 16 months ago, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.
