Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 19/20 @ Pribet
Simply looking to widen their buffer at the top of the Premier Division standings this weekend, Shamrock will travel to Derry City on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, making a much-welcomed return to winning ways last time out as they clung to a 2-1 victory away at Shelbourne, Derry will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, despite clinching a silver medal finish among Ireland’s elite last season, the Candystripes have failed to find any kind of fluidity this time around. Marking their return from March’s international break with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Galway, Tiernan Lynch’s side have mustered just a sole win from any of their previous eight Premier Division appearances – a run that stems back to a frantic 4-2 victory against Waterford on February 27th. Facing what will certainly be a heavyweight challenge against the reigning Irish champions this weekend, Friday’s hosts have shown some extended defensive struggles. It should be highlighted, Lynch’s inconsistent squad have shipped a pair of strikes in four of their last five Premier Division showdowns.
As for the visitors, recapturing their Premier Division crown at a canter last season, Shamrock have their sights firmly set on shattering even more domestic records this year. Last seen securing a 2-1 victory at home against Bohemians, the Irish giants are in the midst of a sensational purple patch. Including an action-packed 3-2 win against Shelbourne earlier in the month, the Rovers have won each of their last three appearances by an aggregate score of 6-3. Likewise, Stephen Bradley’s side have registered 13 points from their previous five top-flight showdowns. Skyrocketing their way back to the top of the Premier Division standings and almost universally regarded as a landslide title contender this year, Shamrock are unbeaten in all of their last nine straight domestic appearances – a run that stems back to a 3-2 loss against the Bohs back on February 27th. Despite their eye-catching displays in the final third, it is worth noting that Bradley’s camp have mustered just a sole clean sheet from their last four outings.
