Two camps who will sign off the 2025/26 A-League campaign on Friday morning, Macarthur will welcome Wellington to the Campbelltown Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while Macarthur might have secured consecutive A-League victories on either side of March’s international break, the Bulls have drastically failed to find any kind of fluidity once again this season. Watching their outside play-off dreams go up in smoke this month, Mile Sterjovski’s side have claimed just a pair of wins from any of their previous 12 appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to a rollercoaster 6-2 victory against Melbourne City on January 24th. Now hit with back-to-back 3-1 defeats against Adelaide and Perth, Macarthur have also gained a reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. Including a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Melbourne Victory on March 15th, Friday’s hosts have remarkably mustered just a sole clean sheet across any formats since New Year’s Day. Likewise, shipping six goals in their consecutive A-League defeats over the past fortnight, it should also be highlighted that Sterjovski’s men have conceded at least a pair of goals in six of the last seven domestic battles.
As for the visitors, while Wellington might be signing off the 2025/26 campaign in the midst of a real purple patch, the Phoenix have left it too late. Heading into their season finale sat four points adrift of the play-off places, Chris Greenacre’s side will be slightly disappointed that they couldn’t manage to hit top gear a few weeks earlier. Making an immediate return to winning ways last time out as they secured a 2-1 victory at home against Western Sydney, Friday’s guests have won four of their previous five A-League appearances. Heading into March’s international break with a rugged 2-1 win away at Brisbane, Wellington will be confident of signing off proceedings with a final flurry on the road. It should also be noted, Greenacre’s camp hold what is a remarkable record at the Campbelltown Stadium. Including a 2-1 win when they travelled to Macarthur last season, the Phoenix have won their previous four straight trips by an aggregate score of 8-2.
