Market: Lille double chance

Odds: 17/20 @ 888sport

In a showdown between two French giants on Sunday night, Lyon will welcome a high-flying Lille to the Groupama Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, managing to make a much-needed return to winning ways last week, there is no doubt that Lyon will be looking to build off of that success on the road. Eventually leaving Montpellier with a hard-fought 2-1 victory, Les Gones are trying to find their feet under new boss Laurent Blanc. However, with many across France believing that the Whites are in an uphill battle to claim a European return this season, the one-time Manchester United defender has seen his side gain a reputation for their continued inconsistencies. On a run that is highlighted by a 3-2 victory away at Rennes on October 16th, Lyon have picked up just a single victory from any of their previous seven domestic contests. Despite drawing a line under their worrying rut last time out, Blanc’s men should be in for a tough test here.

As for the visitors, while Lille might still find themselves trying to break into the top-four, Les Dogues are enjoying a recent purple patch. Last seen putting in a stunning display as they claimed a 4-3 victory at home against Monaco, Paulo Fonseca’s side should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Heading into September’s international break with a 2-1 win against Toulouse, the former Roma boss has seen his side pick up 12 points from their last five Ligue 1 showdowns. With attacking talisman Jonathan David enjoying a real free-scoring start to the 2022/23 campaign, Lille have also bagged seven strikes in their back-to-back victories. Likewise, claiming a 1-0 win when they last made the trip to the Groupama Stadium back on February 27th, we’re backing an away double chance here.
