Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne Victory win

Odds: 2/3 @ 1xBet

Looking to take a giant leap towards wrapping up their play-off ticket this weekend, Melbourne Victory will welcome Wellington to AAMI Park on Sunday morning.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another dominant display prior to March’s international break, Melbourne will simply be looking to carry on from where they left off last month. Heading into the fortnight interval with consecutive 4-1 romps against Central Coast and Macarthur, the Victory certainly found the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Sat firmly in the driving seat to punch yet another play-off ticket this season, Arthur Diles’ side will be hoping to lay down another A-League marker here. Finding a real clinical edge in the final third, Melbourne have registered consecutive wins for the first time since the start of January. Likewise, securing a famous 3-1 victory away at arch-rivals Melbourne City on February 21st, Sunday’s hosts are unbeaten in all of their last seven straight A-League showdowns. However, despite being pencilled in as a standout contender this weekend, Diles’ side are seeking some crucial defensive steel. In fact, the Victory have mustered just a sole clean sheet from any of their last 13 straight matchups – a run that stems all the way back to December 20th.

As for the visitors, although Wellington might have a major uphill battle on their hands in the race to claim their own respective play-off finish this season, Chris Greenacre’s side entered March’s international break with a much-welcomed flurry. Heading into the fortnight interval with a 2-1 victory away at Brisbane, the Phoenix have registered consecutive A-League wins for the first time this season. However, much like Sunday’s opponents, Wellington have also struggled to find any real defensive grit. Signing off February with a nightmare display as they slumped to a 5-0 drumming at home against reigning A-League champions Auckland, Greenacre’s men have mustered just a sole clean sheet from any of their last nine straight outings – a run that stems back to the middle of January. It should also be highlighted, Sunday’s guests have shipped eight strikes in their previous four showdowns away from the Sky Stadium. Falling to a thumping 5-1 defeat when they last travelled to Melbourne back on December 29th, Wellington should have another stern challenge on their hands here.
