In what could prove to be a cagey League One showdown on Tuesday night, Port Vale will host fellow strugglers Rotherham.
Starting with the hosts, while Port Vale might have only made their League One return this season, Jon Brady’s side are already planning for life back in England’s fourth-tier. Sat rock-bottom of the table, the former Northampton boss finds his squad 17 points adrift of safety and their fate can be officially confirmed over the coming days. Watching their shock FA Cup adventure come to a thumping end over the weekend as they slumped to a 7-0 drumming against Premier League giants Chelsea, Brady’s side have shown some glaring issues at both ends of the pitch. Signing off March with a 4-0 loss against Wycombe, it should also be noted that Port Vale have drawn three consecutive blanks and have registered just a sole strike in over 320 minutes of action. However, although Port Vale’s relegation status might be all but officially confirmed, they have suffered just a single defeat in front of their own supporters since the start of February. It should also be noted, Brady’s side men have recorded a clean sheet in four of their previous five matchups at Vale Park.
As for the visitors, although some in Rotherham’s camp might have opened up the 2025/26 campaign with their sights set on mounting a play-off charge, Lee Clark’s side have endured their own respective League One nightmare. Opening Tuesday’s showdown sat 11 points adrift of safety, the Millers are seeking a real miracle in the race to keep hold of their third-tier status. Last seen over the weekend playing out a dull 0-0 stalemate at home against Stevenage, the Yorkshire-based outfit have recorded just a single win from any of their previous 11 straight appearances – a run that stems back to the end of January. Heading into March’s international break with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Lincoln, Rotherham have also shown some glaring attacking issues. Including another 0-0 draw against Mansfield last month, Rotherham have failed to find the net in five of their previous six League One outings. In what could prove to be another cagey third-tier battle on Tuesday night, chances could come at a real premium at Vale Park.
