Competition: League Cup

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 4/5 @ 888sport

Two sides turning their attention back to League Cup duties on Wednesday night, Sheffield Wednesday will welcome Sunderland to Hillsborough.

Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield Wednesday might have signed off their pre-season preparations with three friendly defeats on the spin, it appears that the Owls have bounced back. After opening the 2022/23 League One campaign with an action-packed 3-3 draw against Portsmouth at Hillsborough, Darren Moore’s men also put in an eye-catching display last weekend. Landing a 1-0 victory away at MK Dons, the one-time West Brom boss will be calling on his side to keep up that momentum here. Likewise, once again tipped as a standout pick to clinch another play-off finish this season, Wednesday have continued to shine on home soil. It should be noted, continuing on from last season, Moore’s side are unbeaten in each of their previous 10 third-tier fixtures on home soil, a run that stems back to February 13th.

As for the visitors, marking their Championship return earlier in the month with a 1-1 draw against Coventry on home soil, the Black Cats are enjoying life back in England’s second-tier. Last seen a few days ago picking up a lively 3-2 victory away at Bristol City, Alex Neil’s men appear to find the mood in their camp at a real high. Despite enduring their own sluggish run while on pre-season duties over the summer, the ex-Norwich boss will be hoping for his side to lay down another marker in midweek. Knocking Wednesday out of last season’s play-offs thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory back in May, neutrals will be hoping for an enjoyable affair here. Likewise, it should also be noted, with three of the last four meetings at Hillsborough finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome.

Bet: Both teams to score at Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland 4/5 for Wednesday’s League Cup tie @ 888sport
