Bitesize Prediction: Southampton vs Hull City – 20/02/24

Competition: Championship

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS

In what could prove to be a lively affair from St. Mary’s on Tuesday night, Southampton will hope to find a route back into the automatic promotion places when they host Hull.

Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways over the weekend, Southampton are in the midst of what has become a real fairytale run of form. Eventually claiming an eye-catching 2-0 victory away at West From, Russell Martin’s men have their sights firmly set on securing an immediate Premier League return. While the Saints might have suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bristol City earlier in the month, that is the only defeat that Southampton have suffered from any of their previous 27 straight appearances across all competitions. With that stunning purple patch stemming all the way back to a 2-1 loss against Middlesbrough way back on September 23rd, Tuesday’s hosts have also gained a fearsome reputation for their success on home soil. Last seen at St. Mary’s mounting a dramatic comeback as they clinched an action-packed 5-3 victory against Huddersfield, the former MK Dons boss has seen his men win all of their previous 11 showdowns in front of their own supporters. It should also be highlighted, the Saints have bagged at least a pair of goals in all bar one of those 11 consecutive victories on home soil.

As for the visitors, while Hull might have found themselves at the heart of a Championship relegation scrap for large spells of last season, the Tigers are enjoying their own second-tier romp this time around. With Liam Rosenior’s men continuing to receive a string of plaudits this year, they now have their sights firmly set on punching a famous play-off ticket in 2024. Putting in another eye-catching display over the weekend as they clinched a 2-1 victory away at Huddersfield, the ex-Derby coach has seen his high-flying squad muster 12 points from their previous five Championship appearances. Picking up some major scalps this season and opening Tuesday’s trip to the south coast sat just a single point adrift of the play-off places, it should also be noted that Rosenior’s men have won all of their last three away fixtures by an aggregate score of 5-2. Although Hull might have suffered a 2-1 defeat when they welcomed Southampton to the KCOM for their reverse Championship showdown back on October 21st, neutrals could be treated to a lively affair here.

Bet: Both teams to score at Southampton vs Hull City 7/10 for Tuesday’s Championship contest @ BetUS
