Competition: National League
Market: Wrexham win
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
Hoping to reclaim their spot at the top of the National League table, Wrexham will host a struggling Chesterfield on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Wrexham might have been disappointed after watching their FA Cup adventure come to an end away at Sheffield United earlier in the month, Phil Parkinson’s side are enjoying a real National League flurry. Only continuing on what has been a stellar run of form, it is no secret that many have tipped the Dragons as a leading promotion pick in 2023. Knowing that three points on Tuesday night would see them climb back to the top of the table, the one-time Bolton boss will be calling on his high-flying squad to lay down another marker here. Last seen over the weekend putting in another thumping display as they breezed their way to a 3-1 romp at home against Dorking, Wrexham are now unbeaten on fifth-tier duties since way back on October 4th. With the mood around the Racecourse Ground at a red-hot high, Parkinson’s side have also gained a real reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third.
As for the visitors, while Chesterfield might have opened 2023 enjoying their own promotion charge, Paul Cook’s side are in the midst of a nightmare run of form. Last seen over the weekend putting in a woeful display on home soil as they slumped to a stunning 1-0 loss at the hands of Oldham, the former Wigan boss has seen his side come tumbling down the National League table. In fact, the Derbyshire-based outfit have now failed to win any of their last eight straight contests – a run that stems all the way back to January 24th. With that extended rut highlighted by a 3-0 drumming against Barnet last month, Chesterfield will be more than aware that they face a huge challenge here. Likewise, bagging just a single fifth-tier strike from any of their previous three attempts, the Spireiteshave also gained a reputation for their rather glaring struggles on the road. Including a 4-0 defeat against Championship outfit West Brom, Cook’s side have recorded just a single away victory since opening the New Year.
