Borussia Dortmund 21/20 to beat Lazio in Tuesday’s Champions League opener

Competition: Champions League

Market: Borussia Dortmund win

Odds: 21/20 @ 888sport

Hoping to pick up a real European scalp when the Champions League opens up on Tuesday night, Borussia Dortmund will make the trip to a struggling Lazio.

Starting with the hosts, while Lazio might have managed to just about secure themselves a top-four return in Serie A over the summer, Le Aquile have rather drastically struggled with their consistency since returning from the enforced break. With some around Rome suddenly starting to question Simone Inzaghi’s position in the Stadio Olimpico dugout, the Italian giants put in what was a dreadful display over the weekend. Failing to pick up any kind of boost before they mark their Champions League return in midweek, Lazio were completely blown away after Sampdoria picked up a shock 3-0 romp on Saturday. Managing to collect just a single point over their last three Serie A appearances on the spin, it should also be noted that Tuesday’s hosts were hit with a dreadful 4-1 hammering at the hands of Atalanta last time out on home soil.

As for the visitors, while Borussia Dortmund might have endured a minor blip last month after watching both Augsburg and Bayern Munich end their winning start to the New Year last month, Lucien Favre’s men certainly bounced back in impressive fashion. Leaving it late and watching captain Marco Reus bag the winner away at fellow European chasers Hoffenheim over the weekend, the German outfit have landed back-to-back wins and will travel across the continent confident of laying down a real marker on Tuesday. Almost shocking everyone after recording three clean sheets in their last four Bundesliga appearances, BVB will also be boosted by their most recent meetings against the Italian strugglers. Picking up a 1-0 win when the two sides last faced off back in 2018, we’re backing a similar outcome for Favre’s side in midweek.
