Vasco Da Gama and Corinthians – the top two in the Brazilian Serie A – could not be split in their clash on Sunday in a 2-2 draw.

Championship leaders Vasco led twice in the encounter courtesy of goals to Dede and Fagner, but Corinthians were equal to the task through replies from Alex and Danilo.

Fourth-placed Botafogo missed an ideal chance to cut the gap on the league leaders in a later kick-off, going down to Atletico Goianiense 2-0.

Caio Junior’s men remain five points adrift of top side Vasco, although they have a game in hand on their surrounding rivals.

Figueirense increased their unbeaten run to six games, after playing out a 0-0 draw with Coritiba at home.

Jorginho’s men have drawn five of their past six in the league and are 10th on the table, level on points with Coritiba.

Flamengo claimed a vital 2-1 away win over third side Sao Paulo, cutting their gap on the top four to a solitary point.

Renato Abreu struck an 84th-minute winner at the Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo, after both sides had a man sent off in the second half.

Sao Paulo’s Lucas Silva was shown a second yellow card in the 55th minute and Thiago Neves scored for Flamengo when they still had the numerical advantage 10 minutes later.

But the sending off of Willians in the 71st minute allowed Sao Paulo a way back into the clash – one they duly took through Dagoberto’s goal on 79 minutes, before Abreu’s winner settled the result in Flamengo’s favour.

Atletico Mineiro drew 1-1 with Ceara, a result which did neither side good in their respective relegation battles.

Atletico Paranaense accounted for Internacional 2-0 courtesy of a Federico Nieto brace.

It was Internacional’s first loss in eight games, but they retained seventh place in the league.

Gremio climbed into 11th spot on the table courtesy of their 2-0 victory over Cruzeiro.
