Peyton Manning has been officially unveiled as a Denver Bronco in an NFL record deal worth $US96 million on Tuesday.

In a record deal for a quarterback, Manning will join the Broncos for five years, just two weeks after being dumped by the Indianapolis Colts.

Just four days before his 36th birthday, the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player explained why he picked Denver ahead of a host of other teams that were interested in him.

“I can tell this organisation is committed to winning,” Manning said.

“This is a great place to be. In the end, I felt the Broncos were just a great fit.”

“I’m thrilled to be here, looking forward to meeting my new teammates and hopefully leading the Broncos to more Super Bowls.”

Broncos’ vice-president John Elway, a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback for Denver, played a key role in recruiting Manning, who won the 2007 Super Bowl with the Colts.

Elway is confident Manning will succeed for the Broncos, after missing the entire 2011 NFL season due to a neck injury.

“I believe he has got a lot of great football left in him,” Elway said.

“My goal is to make Peyton Manning the best quarterback who ever played the game.”

But Elway confirmed Manning will have to pass biannual physicals to ensure his neck does not limit his ability to play.

“I told him, ‘I don’t want him to risk his life and I can’t risk the Denver Broncos,'” Elway said.

Manning admitted he is still unhappy with his fitness despite passing physicals for several NFL sides since leaving the Colts.

“I’m not where I want to be,” Manning said.

“I want to be where I was before I was injured.”
