Celtic captain Scott Brown has been ruled out for two months after the club confirmed he requires ankle surgery.

The midfielder has been restricted to making only six appearances this term as Celtic have failed to keep up with the early season form of Scottish Premier League rivals Rangers.

A Celtic statement released on Tuesday read: “Celtic have been hit with more bad news on the injury front with Scott Brown being ruled out for eight to 10 weeks.”

“The captain has failed to overcome the knock he picked up while playing for Scotland in August and will undergo a minor procedure on his right ankle.”

“He left the field of play during the game against Rangers after struggling to recover and now faces two months on the sidelines.”

Celtic have also withdrawn Joe Ledley from Wales’ Euro 2012 qualifying squad but hope to have him back fit when the SPL returns from the international break.
