A late Arthur Melo penalty saw Cagliari beaten at home by Fiorentina on Thursday, but head coach Claudio Ranieri, who has now retired, was seen off with plenty of respect from everyone in the stadium – both sets of fans, the players and the staff of both clubs, as well as the officials.
The man who pulled off a great miracle by leading Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2015/16 and helped Cagliari survive in the Serie A at the end of 2023/24 has called time on what has been a truly wonderful career. Football will not forget him.
