Cagliari part ways with Donadoni

Cagliari have announced the sacking of coach Roberto Donadoni, with former Cesena boss Massimo Ficcadenti expected to take over.

Donadoni was appointed as Cagliari coach in November, replacing Pierpaolo Bisoli, but his position in charge of the squad was on the line following a 14th-placed finish in Serie A last season.

The former Italy coach had a fractious relationship with club president Massimo Cellino, and things took a turn for the worse following divergences regarding David Suazo, who signed for Catania on Friday.

Ficcadenti, 43, has been out of work since the end of the last season, when Cesena decided against renewing his contract after the club narrowly avoided the drop to Serie B.
