Liverpool sack Slot, Iraola frontrunner to replace him

Liverpool have confirmed that they have parted ways with head coach Arne Slot, and according to multiple sources, former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the main candidate to replace him in the Anfield dugout.

It was an underwhelming season for the last year’s Premier League champions – they have barely secured a place in the Champions League next term, and that with the help of the fact that the English top tier has five representatives in the competition in 2026-27, as well as a significant drop in results by several rivals.

Reliable sources initially claimed Slot would be given another chance, so this decision, though shouted for by numerous supporters for months, does come as a bit of a surprise. The Dutchman will be remembered for bringing the 20th league title to Liverpool, as well as the woes which plagued his team throughout 2025-26.

Meanwhile, Iraola is a free agent as his contract with Bournemouth expires. He has long confirmed he would be leaving the Cherries, whom he guided through record-breaking back-to-back campaigns.
