Capello´s assistant blasts ´ungrateful´ Rooney

Italo Galbiati has hit at out Wayne Rooney for his heavy criticism of Fabio Capello’s time in charge of England.

The Manchester United striker had suggested the Italian’s instructions were often lost in translation, and that his departure was the reason behind England’s recent upturn in performance.

Galbiati, a trusted assistant to Capello, believes Rooney’s comments were unwarranted, and defended the work that they did during their time with England.

“He’s ungrateful,” Galbiati told Radio Ies. “Capello made himself understood and respected. Football has only one language – the ball. He cannot teach us anything.

“England are now a solid team, good and strong on the counter-attack.”

Despite the progress England have made under new manager Roy Hodgson, Galbiati predicted they would lose to Italy in Sunday’s Euro 2012 quarter-final.

He also said he would rather have Daniele De Rossi in his team than Steven Gerrard.

“Italy to win 1-0, with a goal from (Antonio) Cassano. Steven is a leader, but I’d take Daniele,” Galbiati said.
