Michael Carrick revealed Manchester United have not made a decision over Marcus Rashford’s future for next season, leaving the door open for his return.

Rashford fell out of favour at Old Trafford under Carrick’s predecessor, Ruben Amorim, becoming part of his ‘bomb squad’.

He spent the second half of last campaign at Aston Villa and is currently on a season-long loan with Barcelona, where he has impressed.

Rashford has made 43 appearances in all competitions, with only Lamine Yamal (40), Fermin Lopez (28), and Raphinha (26) bettering his 22 goal contributions (12 goals, 10 assists).

Barcelona have until June 15 to decide whether to trigger their €30m (£26.1m) option to buy clause, while Rashford, who has two years left on his current United deal, remains open to returning to his boyhood club.

“There’s decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,” said Carrick.

“But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided.

“It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say.”

Carrick, a one-time team-mate of Rashford, has been in interim charge of United since January, and remains in the conversation to get the full-time job at the end of the season.

Though his future currently remains uncertain, Carrick is hoping to get the best out of the team this term, with United pushing for Champions League football.

“Whoever’s here, I want to work with and help them improve,” he added.

“At the moment, it’s this squad of players. There’s obviously players on loan, and whatever happens with that later on will happen.

“But certainly, as a coach and leader of a squad, we want to get the best out of everyone.”

United currently sit third in the table, with a seven-point cushion over sixth-place Chelsea, who they face at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
