Dani Carvajal has declared himself “the happiest person in the world” after being unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Friday.

The Spanish club exercised a buy-back option in the defender’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu after just one season in the Bundesliga.

And, having completed his return to the club he joined as a 10-year-old, Carvajal says he could not be happier.

“Thank you to the president, the fans and the club,” he said. “I fought for a dream that today becomes reality.

“Today I’m the happiest person in the world. I will give my all for this club.”

Real president Florentino Perez also welcomed the 21-year-old’s arrival, claiming he will have little trouble adapting to life back in the Spanish capital.

“Today, many ‘Madridistas’ are happy for you – you have returned home. Dani, welcome to Real Madrid,” he said.

“You know the demands of this club. Now your opportunity has come, and I know you’ll make the most of it. You, Dani, know the values of this club to perfection.”
