This season, Frank Lampard’s first in post at Stamford Bridge, has shown all Chelsea fans their team must improve defensively. The Blues have been fine going forwards, but their leaky defence and a sub-par goalkeeper in the face of Kepa Arrizabalaga are not a good combination and some transfer deals are to be expected this summer.
Many are suggesting Chelsea should make signings both at centre-back and left-back and it is the former position that could be solved by an Atletico Madrid player. According to the Telegraph, Chelsea have scouted their defender Jose Gimenez. The Uruguayan has shown immense progress in Diego Simeone’s team and with Lampard desperate to improve the back four, Gimenez would definitely be a big upgrade.
However, Chelsea might need to sell one of their defenders in order to make this deal happen and even then it is a question whether Atleti would let Gimenez go.
