Chelsea enter Clyne race

Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Express.

The defender has turned down Saints’ offer of a new contract and is set to move to one of the division’s big hitters at the end of the season.

United boss Louis van Gaal is set to work on his defence when the transfer window reopens, but Jose Mourinho is also interested in securing the services of the former Crystal Palace man.

Since swapping Selhurst Park for St Mary’s in the summer of 2012, Clyne has racked up ninety-three appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

The 23 year old, who was named the Football League Young Player of the Year in 2010, made his England debut in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia back in November, playing all ninety minutes in a 3-1 victory while he also was picked for the subsequent friendly against Scotland three days later.
