Could Robbie Keane be set for the MLS?

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane has been linked with a move to the MLS. The veteran striker has been out of favour at White Hart Lane in recent seasons.

Keane has spent a lot of time out on-loan in the past two seasons and is believed to be looking to leave Tottenham on a permanent basis this summer.

Linked

Keane has been linked with a number of clubs including West Ham, where he spent the second half of last season.

The favourites to sign Keane looked to be ambitious Championship side Leicester City though. However its now emerged that MLS franchise LA Galaxy are looking to sign the Irish international.

Stale

His loan spell at West Ham last season didn’t work out, the club being relegated and Keane struggling to make an impact at the Boleyn Ground. He looked like he was lacking fitness and not good enough to still be playing at the top level.

Standard

When West Ham signed Keane I thought he was a really good signing for the Hammers. He was a proven Premier League striker with good movement and a record of scoring goals regularly in the top flight.

However he looked like he had lost the yard of pace which enabled him to find the space to score so many of his goals. It now looks like he is no longer good enough to play in the Premier League.

Change

A move to MLS could be just the change he needs to reignite his flagging career. The standard of league isn’t quite as good as the Premier League but still competitive enough to give him the buzz he needs from playing football.

The standard of MLS really has improved in recent years and the league has been able top attract a better class of player. The franchise who are believed to be interested in signing Keane are LA Galaxy, who are already home to former-England international David Beckham.

Keane definitely needs something to change in order for him to starting performing at close to his best. Maybe the new surroundings of LA could help him rediscover his goalscoring form. Even though he is now 31 years of age, the signing of Robbie Keane would still be seen as a coup for MLS.

Professional

Robbie Keane is a model professional and deserves to be playing. He always tries to conduct himself with integrity and never seems to moan, even when he’s not playing. Keane will also always try to give 100 per cent.

Accepted

The Irish captain has already revealed that he would accept a move away from the English top flight. He obviously realises that his powers are on the wane and he needs to move away from the Premier League to gain regular first team football.

MLS

I can’t see any down sides to Robbie Keane moving to America to play in the MLS. His stock in the Premier League is no longer as high as it used to be and a move the MLS would give him a chance to play regular first team football.

He would also be treated as a hero in the MLS, due to his glittering career in both domestic and international football. I believe it could prove a good move for the Irishman. One thing for sure is that he can’t afford to sit on the Spurs bench for much longer.

Should Robbie Keane make the move to MLS?
