Coupe de France: Quevilly 3 Marseille 2

Quevilly produced a stunning display to oust Ligue 1 giants Marseille 3-2 in extra time in the Coupe de France quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Julien Valero put the minnows into a shock early lead, with a fine finish after just six minutes.

A free-kick was deflected in the path of Valero who swept the ball past the lead-footed Bracigliano for the game’s opening goal.

The side, ranked 16th in France’s third division and who reached the semi-finals in 2010, managed to shut out the 10-time winners for 79 minutes before substitute Loic Remy diverted Andre Ayew’s knock-on into the net with five minutes to go to force extra-time at Caen’s Stade Michel d’Ornano.

A frantic extra-time period followed as John-Christophe Ayina netted to put Quevilly ahead before Loic Remy made it 2-2 seconds later.

However, Ayina would later kill off the game with a minute remaining to eliminate the Ligue 1 side and put Quevilly into the semi-finals.

With two minutes remaining, Bracigliano would prove to be the villain as he criminally dropped the ball and Ayina took full advantage to wrap up a famous cup victory as the Champions League quarter-finalists bowed out of the Coupe de France.

It was Marseille’s seventh straight loss in all competitions, but they remain alive in the Champions League and the Coupe de la Ligue this season.
