Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo’s ankle injury has not healed and he is still struggling to get down to full training, the La Liga club said on wednesday.

Ronaldo picked up the injury during Madrid’s Champions League match against Olympique Marseille at the end of September and aggravated it in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Hungary on October. The Portugal forward has been sidelined since then by a right ankle injury for nearly one month. He underwent a medical review on Wednesday that showed no progress on the injury.

Madrid had been hopeful that the 24-year-old would be available for Saturday’s derby against Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club says that Ronaldo cannot yet return to training with the team and will continue undergoing treatment on the injury.

Over the course of the next few days, Manuel Pellegrini will continue to monitor Ronaldo’s progress closely but he will not risk him unless he is 100 per cent fit.

Although Real Madrid played a great match against Milan, they had to share the points at San Siro in a 1-1 draw. And this weekend, Real will face Atletico Madrid in an away match at Estadio Vicente Calderón.

Guti and Garay, starters in Milan clash, tackled a recovery session in the gym and on the pitch in prepartion for the weekends fixture. Xabi Alonso is said to have trained aside from the squad while Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo missed the session.
