Dalglish delighted with victory

Kenny Dalglish was delighted as Liverpool recorded their first ever victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium with a 2-0 win.

The Reds dominated possession against an Arsenal side depleted by injuries and suspensions, but they needed a bit of good luck to break the deadlock as Ignasi Miquel’s clearance struck Aaron Ramsey and looped over Wojciech Szczesny in the 70th minute.

The three points were sealed by substitute Luis Suarez in the final minute and Dalglish admitted he was impressed with the way his side performed to record their first win of the new season after being held by Sunderland on the opening day.

“We’re delighted,” Dalglish told Sky Sports. “I thought it was a fantastic game of football, and even if we’d have come in with a draw I still would’ve said the same thing it wouldn’t have altered the quality of football played by both sides.”

“We’re delighted to have won, I think we just about deserved it so for us it’s great to get our season off and running with a victory.”

After a busy summer at Anfield, Dalglish was also delighted at how quickly his new signings have settled and he admitted he was looking forward to seeing how they continued to develop.

“We know what the boys are capable of it’s just getting them tuned to produce that performance,” he said.

“As we said last week four lads making their debuts, one trained for a week, the other for 10 days and I think you can see the difference when they’ve been here for another week.”

“They’ve left really good football clubs behind them but it takes a wee bit of a while to settle down but if that’s an indication of how quickly they’ve settled then we’ve all got something to look forward to.”

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger insisted there was ‘no chance’ he will walk away from the Arsenal manager’s job.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a week in which Arsenal travel to Udinese for a crucial Champions League qualifier and a trip to Manchester United in the Premier League, Wenger said: “I always feel under pressure, not more than usual.”

“There is no chance I will walk away. I answered that question yesterday. I will continue to try to give my best for the club.”

“Every defeat is a devastation or an earthquake in this job. We are very disappointed that we lost today. I feel the result is very harsh on us. The decider was the sending-off and the offside goal.”

“For us, it is important now to lift the players. Wednesday night’s game (against Udinese) is massive and of big importance to us.”
