AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong says joining the Serie A giants helped him realise a dream as he looks to make a mark at the San Siro.
Dutchman De Jong is determined to follow in the footsteps of illustrious compatriots such as Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Clarence Seedorf.
The combative midfielder joined Milan from Manchester City on deadline day of the transfer window and he is keen to guide them to success.
“When I watched Milan in the ’80s and the ’90s, I dreamt of coming here to play for them,” de Jong told Sky Italia.
“Finally I’m here at Milan and therefore I must thank Dutchmen like van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard and Seedorf.
“We have a young squad that needs to be built again, but I’m happy to be a part of this project. I want to contribute to the future success of Milan.”
De Jong made his official Milan debut in the 3-1 Serie A win over Bologna.
