De Laurentiis rejects Hamsik-PSG link

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has dismissed the prospect of Marek Hamsik leaving the club to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Last week Hamsik admitted he was fascinated by the Qatari-owned Ligue 1 club’s ambitious plan to establish themselves as a major force in European football but insisted that he was happy at the Stadio San Paolo.

De Laurentiis has now weighed in, claiming he could see no reason why a character such as Hamsik – who is under contract for another four years – would be interested in moving to Paris.

“Hamsik is an educated and polite person,” De Laurentiis told Sky Sport Italia. “When he was 20 he seemed as if he was 30.”

“He has a splendid family and has married into our cause by signing a contract with us until 2016.”

“PSG have a lot of money, they have a coach of value (former AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti), but they still have to prove that they can win.”

“I don’t want to create a diplomatic incident here, but Neapolitans are much more fun. In Paris, people are busy with their own egos.”

Hamsik, who last season was linked with a move to AC Milan, joined Napoli from Brescia in 2007 and has since established himself as a key player for Walter Mazzarri’s side.
