With the chance to climb into that lucrative third and final Europa League spot, Derry City will make the trip to a struggling UCD Bowl on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, coming off the back of a 2-1 loss at home to fellow strugglers Waterford llast time out, UCD are destined for an immediate rurn to Ireland’s second-tier this season. Now sat 10 points adrift of Premier Division safety and the mood in their camp still on a low since their 7-0 hammering away at Shamrock last week, Head Coach Collie O’Neill has seen his side record just a pair of victories since the 15th of April. Along with their lackluster display against Waterford over the weekend, O’Neill will be growing more frustrated by his sides’ issues on home soil. UCD have lost seven of their last nine matches at the Bowl, including a 2-0 loss at home to Derry back in April.

As for the visitors, putting in another dominant display in their routine 2-0 victory over Waterford last weekend, the mood in Derry’s camp is arguably the highest it has been all season. With Bohemians so publically struggling in the second half of the season, Declan Devine’s side now sit just three points adrift of the final Europa League spot. Tasting defeat just once in Ireland’s top-tier since the middle of April, Devine will be most impressed by his sides’ recent defensive resolve. Friday’s guests have conceded just a single goal in almost 400 minutes of action. Given the recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing a comfortable away victory this weekend.
