Deschamps forced to reassess

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps admits that finishing in the top three of Ligue 1 will be difficult for his side.

Evian inflicted a third successive defeat on the French giants on Tuesday, a 2-0 result at Parc des Sports.

The result left Marseille eighth in the standings, eight points behind third-placed Lille, who occupy the last Champions League spot.

Deschamps bemoaned his side’s poor run of form that has seen them pick up just two points from the last 15 available, and blamed some players for not doing enough to help the team’s cause.

“We are going through a tough spell,” he told reporters after the game. “We have spent a lot of energy and it is starting to show.”

“There are still a lot of points to play for, but I know that it is going to be very difficult to take third.”

“I am just waiting for us to regain our full capacity. However, it is difficult without important players.”

“We had a very young bench, which limited our solutions.”

“Without naming them, there were also some players whose performances were inadequate.”

Marseille’s next assignment sees them travel to struggling Ajaccio on Friday.
