Diouf, Blackburn part ways

El-Hadji Diouf has parted ways with Premier League club Blackburn after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The Senegalese frontman returned late for pre-season training and has a long history of confrontation since his arrival in Britain when he joined Liverpool in 2002.

Rovers manager Steve Kean told reporters: “Dioufy has left the club. I think we reached a mutual-consent termination of his contract last night.”

“He will be moving on to pastures new and we wish him all the best.”

Twice named African Footballer of the Year, Diouf shined for Senegal at the 2002 World Cup but has rarely reproduced his best form since.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Scottish champions Rangers and was clearly not in Kean’s plans for the future, with Yakubu and David Goodwillie joining the club on Wednesday.

He is now available as a free agent ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline for such deals.
