Players from Nigerian champions Dolphins are set to embark on strike action immediately after Sunday’s match against Gombe United.

An unnamed player told Goal.com the club owes players match allowances and salaries, prompting the strike.

“We cannot afford to play on empty stomachs. (The) majority of us are the bread winners of our families and we can’t just be working without getting paid,” the source said.

“We are owed 23 match bonuses and other allowances.”

“So we have decided that after the game against Gombe United we are going to down tools and make sure that we get paid our allowances and match bonuses.”

“We are doing this because we need all the motivation to do well this season.”

Club secretary, Ahmed Abdulrahman, said the Government will settle all outstanding fees owed to the players in the near future.

“They are working hard to make sure the players get their money as and when due. I am very sure that by next week, the players will smile,” Abdulrahman said.
