Former Italy international Cristiano Doni has been arrested by police for their alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal.

The operation, called ‘Last Bet’, led to the arrest of Giuseppe Signori and several more back in June, and a number of former players have now been detained in a follow-up sting to the events earlier in 2011, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Aside from Doni, who is already suspended from football for three-and-a-half years for his role in the scandal, former Inter defender Luigi Sartor, Alessandro Zamperini, Andrea Gervasoni and Filippo Carobbio have also been arrested.

The 17 suspects reportedly have contacts with criminal organisations in Singapore and eastern Europe that are involved in match-fixing and other forms of sporting fraud.

The 2010-11 Serie A games between Brescia-Bari, Brescia-Lecce and Napoli-Sampdoria are all being investigated, as well as several more Serie B games and matches in the lower divisions of Italian football.
