LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan believes he is close to returning to his best form ahead of Sunday’s clash with Sporting Kansas City.

Donovan made his first MLS start of the campaign against FC Dallas at the weekend as the Galaxy’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end with a 1-0 loss.

The United States international took a self-imposed sabbatical at the end of last season, relinquishing the Galaxy captaincy to Robbie Keane for the 2013 campaign.

“Last week was really good for me personally,” Donovan said.

“This week has been a good week of training and my hope is that this is the week where it all comes together.

“I am a lot more comfortable and confident. My touch is back naturally, so I’m not focusing on it anymore so I can focus on other things on the field.

“That’s when I’m at my best so hopefully this week it all comes together.”

Galaxy will look to return to winning ways against Kansas City, who have not conceded a goal in five matches.

“They are a strong team; they got a good result against Red Bulls away,” Keane said.

“It’s going to be a tough game but we’re a good team and we’re at home so hopefully we can get the three points.”
