Drogba: Old hands need to adapt

Didier Drogba has warned the more experienced members of Chelsea’s squad that they will have to adapt to Andre Villas-Boas’ style of play.

The striker scored twice against Valencia in midweek to secure the west Londoners’ place in the last 16 of the Champions League, and is hoping for a positive run of form.

“He (Villas-Boas) is trying to build something strong, like the other managers did before. He bought some new players and we (the older players) have to adapt,” Drogba told the London Evening Standard.

“I will say the old players, the ones who have been here for a while, we have to adapt together, learn how to play together and win together.”

“There are still a few things we need to improve on.”

“To win the Champions League you have to be a really strong team and be lucky as well. But we have to create and make our own luck.”

“If we keep going like the way we did against Valencia, then why not? It is good to be part of this new campaign.”

“The match against Valencia was only my second in the competition this year so it’s good to be part of it. I love this competition.”

Drogba has had to battle Fernando Torres for a position up front this season and the Ivorian’s recent goal run may see him start against Premier League leaders Manchester City in Monday’s game at Stamford Bridge.
