Lazio and Udinese will face each other in Serie A next week. The match between Maurizio Sarri’s side and Gabriele Cioffi’s team will be held at Stadio Olimpico in Rome and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45 pm UK time next Monday.

Lazio

Lazio are one of the biggest clubs in Italy and are doing well at the moment. The Roman side are unlikely to end up in the top four of the Serie A table this season, but they could still end up in the UEFA Europa League places. That would be a successful campaign for them.

I Biancocelesti are ninth in the Serie A table at the moment with 40 points from 27 matches. Maurizio Sarri’s side are as many as 11 points behind Bologna, who are fourth. Lazio are only six points behind sixth-placed Atalanta.

Lazio will head into the Serie A match against Udinese next week on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich away from home at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. That came after a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan at home in Serie A which followed a 2-1 loss at the hands of Fiorentina in Florence in the league.

Team News:

Lazio are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation. Ivan Provedel will be in goal for the home team and will have Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli in front of him in central defence. Adam Marusic and Luca Pellegrini are suspended, so it will be interesting to see which players are deployed at right-back and left-back. Matteo Guendouzi is suspended as well, so Lazio will have to find someone else to play on the right of a three-man midfield. Matias Vecino and Luis Alberto will be the other two midfielders. Felipe Anderson, Valentín Castellanos and Mattia Zaccagni will be the three forwards.

Udinese

Udinese are an established club in Serie A. Although they are not expected to challenge for the UEFA Champions League places or the Serie A title, they do tend to do well and end up in mid-table. However, things are not going so well for them at the moment.

Gabriele Cioffi’s side are as low as 15th in the Serie A table at the moment with 24 points from 27 matches. Udinese are just a point above the bottom three and are in real danger of getting relegated to Serie B at the moment.

Udinese will head into the Serie A match against Lazio next week on the back of a 1-1 draw with Salernitana away from home in the league. It came after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Genoa on the road in the league which followed a 1-1 draw with Cagliaru at home in Serie A.

Team News:

Udinese are likely to line up in a 3-5-1-1 formation against Lazio. Maduka Okoye will be in goal for the home team and will have Joao Ferreira, Lautaro Giannetti and Nehuen Perez in front of him in defence. Sandi Lovric, Walace and Marin Payero will be the three midfielders. Festy Ebosele is suspended, so Florian Thauvin will start in his place at right wing. Hassane Kamara will be the left winger, while Oier Zarraga could be deployed in attacking midfield. Lorenzo Lucca will lead the line for the visiting team.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Lazio have lost 3 of their last four Serie A matches.
  • Lazio have conceded 29 goals in 27 Serie A matches this season.
  • Lazio have scored 32 goals in 27 Serie A matches this season.
  • Udinese have won 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 Serie A games.
  • Udinese have conceded 41 goals in 27 Serie A games this season.

Conclusion

Lazio are a better team than Udinese and are having a better season. While the former are aiming to finish in the European places in the Serie A table, the latter are in danger of getting relegated to Serie B. Playing at home is also going to give Lazio an advantage. It is very likely that I Biancocelesti will pick up all three points from the encounter.
