FC Dallas sign David Texeira from Groningen

FC Dallas have completed the signing of Uruguayn forward David Texeira from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen for an undisclosed fee.

FC Dallas have completed the signing of highly-rated Uruguay youth international forward David Texeira from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen for an undisclosed fee.

Texeira, who joined Groningen from Defensor Sporting in August 2011, has fallen out-of-favour under manager Erwin van de Looi this season, with the 41-year-old preferring the likes of Michael de Leeuw and 17-year-old starlet Richairo Živković.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan bagged a total of 14 goals in 65 appearances for Groningen.

“He’s a striker who finishes, a striker who works extremely hard off the ball and is going to complement what we have already with [Andrés] Escobar, [Mauro] Díaz, [Fabián] Castillo and Blas [Pérez],” FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said in a statement on the MLS’ official website.

“He’s a guy we have followed for a long time. He was probably one of the best players in the 2011 U-20 World Cup in Colombia, and from there he went to the Netherlands right away.

“He’s a very talented young man and I don’t believe he has even reached his potential yet. He’s going to be an incredible addition to our roster.”

FC Dallas are priced at 33/1 to win the MLS Cup in 2014.

Thiago Motta signs contract extension with PSG

Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Thiago Motta has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 30 June 2016.

The Italy international, 31, signed for PSG from FC Internazionale Milano in a deal worth €10 million in January 2012 and has been an integral part of the first-team under first-year manager Laurent Blanc in 2013/14.

“Paris Saint-Germain are happy to announce the extension of Thiago Motta’s contract until 2016,” confirmed the club via Twitter.

The Brazilian-born midfielder, formerly of Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona, is delighted to extend his stay in Paris, and rightfully so.

“I am very happy that I can play for Paris Saint-Germain until 2016,” the 31-year-old told Psg.fr.

“My intention was to continue playing for this team so now everything is fine for me.

“I will keep my feet on the ground and continue to work as I have before, to help PSG to win titles.”

Motta has started 22 of Les Parisiens’ 25 Ligue 1 matches this term, tallying two goals and one assist, and last played in the 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on 18 February.

In other news, Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, has revealed he ‘suffered’ after failing to secure a move to PSG 18 months ago.

“I was the Qataris’ priority. They met me before all the other players they signed. They wanted me to sign. But I think Leonardo had other priorities,” Taarabt told RMC Sport.

“Paris did make QPR an offer of €12 million all the same. My clause was 17 million. But it was too much for Leonardo, too much for a player who had had just one good season in the English second tier

“I suffered because of that transfer falling through, I suffered a lot. In my head, I was at PSG, at a big club, I was going to play the Champions League. And then you go off with QPR again. I had a nightmare of a year. It was hard. But I’m happy to have bounced back at AC Milan.”

Since joining Milan on loan earlier this year, Taarabt has scored one goal — which came on his club and Serie A debut against Napoli — in three appearances in all competitions.

The Rossoneri (8-8-8), dubbed the ‘fallen giants’ for much of this season, are currently in ninth-place in the league table, four points adrift of newly-promoted Hellas Verona (11-3-10) and a whopping 31 points behind leaders Juventus (20-3-1).
