FIFA hit Chelsea with transfer ban until 2011

English Premier League club Chelsea have been fined and hit with a ban on registering players until January 2011 by world football’s ruling body FIFA as punishment for their role in a contractual dispute.

The sanction follows a decision by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC), which met on August 27 to rule on a contractual dispute opposing French first division club Lens to French player Gael Kakuta and London giants Chelsea.

The DRC found Kakuta guilty of breach of contract and also found Chelsea guilty of inducing the player to break his contract with the French club, which had lodged a claim with FIFA seeking compensation and demanding sporting sanctions both on the player and Chelsea.

A statement from FIFA said the DRC “found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club”.

“Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach.”

As well as paying 780,000 euros in compensation to Lens, for which Chelsea are jointly liable, Kakuta has been sanctioned in accordance with article 17, paragraph 3 and 4 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

He has been effectively banned from playing in official matches for four months.

The statement added: “Chelsea are banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision.

“Furthermore, the club, Chelsea, have to pay Lens training compensation in the amount of 130,000 euros.”

This was ridiculous. CFC is already banned, and even though I am diehard Manchester United material, I would like it if they were punished for the Pogba saga, too.
Though, of course, neither ban should be as harsh as it is for CFC.

Real just signed a referee and Chelsea got banned for signing a youngster…

    ?wtf?

*somewhere in the world right now, Roman Abramovic’s cell phone is ringing*
Abramovic: “Tom! Always a pleasure to talk to you, how are you?”
Ovrebo: “Roman…I am great…what can I do for you today?”

I am a full fletch Man United fan here in Nigeria. I read the news of Chelsea’s ban for the next two transfer seasons & honestly i was sad because if this makes them not to win any title, they might say it’s their arch rivals especially Man United. So the governing body FIFA should reduce to atleast one transfer window.

Good! I hope Man U get the same for inducing Pogba. Then maybe that red nose will shut up about Madrid and CR9. Ferg wasn’t complaining when Man U stole Hargreves or Berbatov either… Selective sense of morals I guess.

Hi,what FIFA want is for clubs at all levels to respect contracts binding a player(especially very young ones) and a club, even if a tranfer is needed it should be done according to their law. Also, trying to prevent the illegal ways some so-called big and rich clubs sign players from lesser clubs.ROMA were also handed a similar jugdement but they took the case to CAS where the jugdement was suspended until further ruling and there are some cases where the purnishment was reduced after the case has been judge in the CAS .HALA MADRID.

If Chelsea did something wrong, I have no argument that punishment should be given.

Looking at the facts I have available to me now, it would appear that the judgment is quite harsh.

Each season I read of stories of tapping up(as Waleade put it), and I have never seen punishment such as this.

If anyone else knows more about what happened, or anything about infractions such as this, please do post and it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, we should’nt be in a haste to critise FIFA if they really went against the law,i think CHELSEA should take the case to the CAS if they really find the judgement too harsh on them noting that ROMA also have a similar case pending in CAS. Finally this judgement might affect CHELSEA in the january noting that some of their african players will be off for the nations cup and they might need reinforcement.i think this will serve as a lesson to all clubs at all level.HALA MADRID.

wtf?? CFC is really getting slapped around by the governing boards lately…lol

ah well – we don’t really need to be signing anyone anyway…we have both depth and talent…save that cash for a year and we’re good to go January 2011…it’s not that far away. I’m sure Roman is more inclined to receive some of loan payments from Chelsea rather than spend them anyway.

I wonder how hard Chelsea will fight the appeal? and why? Unless they have a monster in the making that they want to sign within the year…any prospects out there?

It seems like there are calculated attempts in high places to wear down the growing dominance of English clubs! Good thing Chelsea’d done some rather scanty business during the recent transfer window. By implication, no player will leave the club since no signing is possible during the ban. I’m sure Chelsea will survive and continue to thrive given the quality and depth of their current squad. But it’s rather too harsh ,unfair and crazy……No doubt Chelsea rivals will be celebrating this all the way………..

That is exactly how it struck me, ‘doesn’t make sense’. This could potentially have a huge impact on the club.

I don’t know the legality of the whole situation, but with all the transfer drama that goes around every season, a punishment like this so suddenly seems a bit over the top.

this sounds very suspicious to me as there was no any alarm before this news broke out…. this is too much…. the punishment will cost chelsea alot of coming successes for a minor business…..doesnt make sense.

Does anyone know anything more about this?

This seems a bit outrageous to me, especially considering some of the other transfer drama I have heard about over the last season or so.

I thought it was a typo at first, and had to look up the player, who apparently made two appearances last season, (for the reserve) and 24 in total for the club.

I am curious to know what crime was so horrible they are banning Chelsea from any transfers until 2011.
