Former Barca youth player completes Forest switch

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of teenage Spanish defender Roger Riera, according to the Mail Online.

The centre-back year old captained Barcelona’s Under 19s side to the UEFA Youth League title last season having progressed through their infamous La Masia academy, which also produced the likes of Xavi, Anders Iniesta and Lionel Messi.

However, the 19 year old failed to earn a new contract with the Catalan club, so moves to the City Ground on a two-year deal for free.

He becomes the East Midlands fourth signing of the close season, following the arrivals of fellow defender Louis Laing and strikers Matty Fryatt and Lars Veldwijk – all three of whom appeared in the 4-0 friendly victory over non-league Ilkeston on Saturday.

Stuart Pearce’s side, who begin the forthcoming campaign at home to Blackpool on August 9th, can be backed at a price of 4/1 to achieve promotion next May.
