Palermo have announced the sacking of coach Giuseppe Sannino, with Gian Piero Gasperini set to take over at the Serie A club.

Sannino had been in charge since June and oversaw just three competitive matches.

An official club statement read: “(The club) have announced that Mr. Guiseppe Sannino has been dismissed as coach of the first team.

“He and his coaching staff are thanked for their commitment and professionalism shown in recent months.

“At the same time (the club) have outsourced the job to Gian Piero Gasperini, who will lead his first training session with the team on Tuesday afternoon.”

Gasperini endured a torrid time as Inter Milan’s manager in 2011, where he was fired after failing to win any of his first five matches.
