Genoa sporting director Stefano Capozucca has revealed that the club were interested in the services of Luis Enrique before he joined Roma.
The 41-year-old took control of the capital club in June after three years in charge of Barcelona’s B team, replacing Vincenzo Montella at the Stadio Olimpico.
“He was offered to our president, but we could not find an understanding,” Capozucca told Forzaroma. “I think he is a great coach.”
Enrique, who replaced Vincenzo Montella and has a contract with Roma until 2013, has come under fire of late as they are five points behind the Champions League qualification places.
He has been suggested as a strong possibility to replace Pep Guardiola at Barcelona in case the highly-rated coach does not sign a new contract with the Blaugrana.
