´Good is not enough´ – Ten Hag reflects on Man Utd difficulties

Erik ten Hag admitted his Manchester United side were not good enough even though they had many highs during his tenure.

The Dutchman took over in 2022 and was in charge of United for just over two years before being sacked in October, despite signing a one-year contract extension prior to this season.

While his first campaign in charge saw the Red Devils win the EFL Cup and qualify for the Champions League, they struggled to maintain those levels in his second, though they finished 2023-24 by beating rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

However, after a poor start to this season, Ten Hag’s time at the club came to an end following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, which left the club 14th in the Premier League.

“If there’s one thing I miss, it’s Old Trafford,” Ten Hag told the SEG Stories podcast.

“We’ve had many highs, but as I always say, there is always room for improvement.

“Good is not enough. You can do better.”

In recent weeks, Ten Hag has been linked with Borussia Dortmund and Feyenoord, though both clubs have since hired Niko Kovac and Robin van Persie respectively, as well as a move to MLS.

However, the 55-year-old revealed he has no plans to step back into management this season.

“I’ve already decided not to take any job until the 1st of July, so until the start of the new season.”
