While Liverpool might be inching towards a deal for Japanese international and Stuttgart star Wataru Endo, it is no secret that the Premier League giants have come under plenty of scrutiny this summer.

Rejected by both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia as both of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield targets elected to make the move to Stamford Bridge, the former European champions are desperately seeking reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Still yet to recruit a genuine holding midfielder since the summer transfer window opened up, Klopp’s side are scrambling behind the scenes over the final fortnight.

Ahead of what could be a hectic end to the summer transfer window at Anfield, we have taken a look at three midfield stars that remain linked with a late move to the red half of Merseyside.

Ryan Gravenberch – Bayer Munich

While Endo might be inching towards a move to Anfield, the 30-year-old Japan skipper is not the only Bundesliga-based star that could be heading to the Premier League giants before the window slams shut.

Previously linked with Klopp’s side over the past two transfer windows, it is no secret that Ryan Gravenberch has plenty of admirers among the Anfield hierarchy.

Although many around the Allianz Arena might have been excited after the former Ajax starlet arrived last summer, the 21-year-old has struggled to find much first-team stability with the German giants.

With Thomas Tuchel’s side splashing £100million last week as they snapped up Harry Kane, Bayern are under pressure to recoup some money over the final fortnight of the transfer window.

With it suggested that Gravenberch is already open to completing a permanent move away from the Allianz, The Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool have revived their interest in the Dutch international.

Cheick Doucoure – Crystal Palace

While fans around Selhurst Park might have been overjoyed to see Chelsea target Micheal Olise put pen to paper on a new four-year deal this week, it appears that Crystal Palace face a real battle to keep hold of another first-team star this summer.

With attacking icon Wilfried Zaha making the move to Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray on a free transfer, Cheick Doucoure is attracting some heavyweight interest this summer.

With Klopp desperate for the Anfield hierarchy to recruit a genuine number six over the final fortnight, The Independent are reporting that Liverpool have identified the 23-year-old as a standout contender.

Although the Reds might have also registered interest in Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, The Independent’s report suggests that Doucoure has emerged as Klopp’s ideal candidate.

While a fee in the region one £60million might be enough to bring Palace to the negotiation table, it is believed that Doucoure is keen on completing a potential move this summer.

Boubacar Kamara – Aston Villa

Although Liverpool might have remain linked with a host of heavyweight European midfield stars this summer, it is Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara that has emerged as a late shock option.

While Kamara might have only arrived from Marseille on a five-year contract last summer, the 23-year-old has continued to gain a string of plaudits from across the Premier League.

Despite dealing with some extended injury issues last season, the France international did play a key role in an Aston Villa squad that booked a famous Europa Conference League ticket.

Continuing on a stellar rise since they welcomed ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery to the Midlands, French outlet Foot Mercato reported on Thursday that Liverpool are interested in a potential summer swoop.

Although Villa might have made it clear that they have no interest in parting ways with their midfield talisman, Klopp’s side could attempt to test their resolve as Deadline Day inches closer.
