Outgoing Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has revealed that he will not return to club management next season.
Heynckes led Bayern to the treble last term, the Bavarians becoming the first side to win the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League in the same season.
It was announced in January that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola would take over from Heynckes for the 2013-14 season, with the 68-year-old widely expected to retire following a 34-year career in football management.
Despite that, Heynckes has been strongly linked with the vacant position at Real Madrid after Jose Mourinho left the Spanish side to rejoin Chelsea.
However, Heynckes has refuted suggestions he will take over at the Bernabeu for a second time, although he has not gone as far as to announce his full retirement from the sport.
“I will go on holiday. I will not work in England or elsewhere abroad from July,” Heynckes said.
“I will rest and do a lot of thinking and then we’ll see how it goes.”
The former Benfica and Schalke boss did admit he had received offers from a number of clubs, but stressed that he was eager to take a break on the back of his most successful season in the game.
“After a season like this, it’s only natural that other clubs would be interested in me joining them. They were big clubs,” he added.
“Being coach at Bayern Munich takes a lot out of you, it requires a lot of energy and strength.
“I didn’t have a holiday at all last year. In the last few weeks I’ve felt the wear and tear of my age. Recovery takes longer.”
Heynckes has received much praise for his achievements last term, but he has been keen shift the acclaim to the players in a parting message to the club.
“Here I discovered that Bayern Munich is a completely different kind of football club,” he explained.
“The way we played against Juventus and Barcelona, with a clear philosophy and with dominance, was fantastic.
“We learned a lot from the disappointments of last year and optimised so many things in the whole club.”
