Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has confirmed that he wishes to leave the club when the transfer window reopens.
The Argentina international was named stand-in captain as Jose Mourinho’s men rounded off the 2012-13 campaign with a 4-2 home victory over Osasuna on Saturday.
He opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a well-taken finish, and played the entirety of the match as Real took the win courtesy of a flurry of late goals.
Mourinho had already announced that he would depart the Santiago Bernabeu after the final Liga game of the season, but it now appears that he will be joined by Higuain – who has revealed he has had offers from other clubs.
“I feel that my time here is over, I want a change,” he said.
“These seven years have been intense, hard and bright. It was a considered decision. It wasn’t easy, but I think I want to go to another club, new challenges.
“I hope Madrid do what is best for me. This is a decision that has been taken.”
Higuain has previously been linked with Italian champions Juventus, and has now admitted such a move would appeal to him.
He added: “Juventus and other teams are interested in me. Juventus is an historical club and many great players have played there.
“I want to go where I can prove myself really. I have several offers and want a change of scenery.
“I was never given anything here, I always had to fight for the death. I came for €12 million but I think I will sell for more.”
Should he leave Real, Higuain will finish his spell with the Madrid club having scored 122 goals in 266 appearances.
