(GSM) – Dirk Kuyt wants Holland to make history and win the World Cup for the first time after defeating Uruguay 3-2 to reach the finals on Tuesday night.

The Netherlands progress to their third World Cup final with the win setting up a showdown with either Spain or Germany. The Dutch lost both of their previous finals in 1974 and 1978 to hosts West Germany and Argentina respectively.

“After a long journey we are in the final,” Kuyt said.

“We are so close to writing history. This is the third time we have reached the final. Now we have to win it.”

The 29-year-old was delighted after booking a place in Sunday’s final.

“What has happened is unbelievable. It is a bit unreal,” the Liverpool striker explained.

“We felt before the tournament we had the quality in the team to win it but now it is an incredible feeling.”
