Holloway wants second look at trialists

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway is keen to give three trialists at the club a good chance to earn a deal at Selhurst Park.

Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Elliot Grandin and Atdhe Nuhiu all played 45 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Dagenham and Redbridge and Holloway is keen to take a second look as the new campaign draws near.

Grandin and Quincy both have previous Premier League experience, while Nuhiu scored against the League Two side, and Holloway is looking to bolster his side.

“I’ll use some of them again on Tuesday if their agents will let me,” he told the club’s official site. “That’s the first game and you should never judge anyone on their first game.

“They’ve bedded in with us and I quite like them as people, so we’ll have some tough decisions to make.”

Owen Garvan secured the victory with a second-half penalty, however he appeared to pick up an injury late in the game and was unable to complete the match after picking up a knee injury.

However, Holloway was quick to reveal that the midfielder’s problem was a known condition and his substitution was to ensure the issue did not get worse ahead of the new season.

“He’s just got a sore knee,” the former Blackpool boss explained.

“He’s got patella tendonitis which isn’t very nice.

“He knows how to manage it, but when the pitch is hard, we’re not used to that and that caused him a problem.”
