Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone is set to undergo a second ankle operation on Friday as he seeks to recover from long-term injury.
Huddlestone, 25, has made just two English Premier League appearances this season.
The former Derby County man has been forced to watch from the sidelines while Scott Parker and Luka Modric cement themselves as Harry Redknapp’s first-choice midfield partnership.
A club statement released on Wednesday claimed Huddlestone he has made good initial progress from the first operation, but confirmed more surgery is required.
“Tom Huddlestone will undergo a second stage of surgery on Friday to further his recovery following ankle surgery at the end of last year,” the statement said.
“The midfielder has progressed well since his initial surgery, with the specialist determining that the anticipated reconstruction of a lateral ankle ligament is the next step towards the England international making a return to full fitness.”
